Pando- The tree which lives for 80,000 years!

If someone asks you how long a single living organism can survive? You may guess the answer- "4000 years" or "5000 years", as that is the average lifespan of a Baobab tree is 6000 years!

No, it's not! There is a plant that survives much longer than you can imagine.

Pando or 'I spread out' or popularly known as the "trembling giant" has survived 80,000 years!

Amazing facts about the tree-

This tree spans for almost 106 acres.

This phenomenal tree has an extensive underground root system.

This tree is the most massive known organism. With that massive root system, it weighs 6,000,000 kgs (or 6000 tons)!


The tree has 40,000 stems (trunks) that are 130 years old on average.

Grim fact-

Humankind, global warming, grazing wild animals have affected this one-of-a-kind tree a lot. According to scientists, this tree has not been growing for the last 35-40 years.

US Forest Service has undertaken an effort along with the Western Aspen Alliance to save the tree.
